ABOUT ME
A little bit about me
I'm Sarah, the founder of The Fit VA.
Before starting my own business, I spent over ten years working across media, account management, business development, recruitment and operations. I've worked with some fantastic companies along the way, including Bauer Media and Heart Radio, and met some really brilliant people.
I've always loved working, and my career has taken me in lots of different directions. But looking back, I don't think I ever quite felt like I fitted in. I could absolutely love the job I was doing and the people I worked with, but there was always a little part of me that felt slightly out of place.
Then the pandemic came along, and things took a rather unexpected turn. Since then, I've been made redundant four times. Four! It certainly wasn't how I imagined my career would go, and after the fourth time, I started thinking seriously about what I actually wanted to do next.
I'd spent years helping other people run their businesses, building relationships, managing projects, keeping things organised and getting involved in pretty much everything. I realised I had all this experience that I genuinely enjoyed using, so why not see if I could build something of my own?
That's how I ended up becoming a Virtual Assistant, and I can genuinely say I absolutely love what I do. I get to work with different people, learn about their businesses and become involved in what they're building. I love the variety, the relationships and being someone my clients know they can count on.
SO WHY FITNESS & SPORT?
It's always been part of my life
Sport has always been part of my life. Growing up, I spent a lot of time watching sport with my dad, and although I was more into dancing than playing sport myself, I've always enjoyed watching it.
My partner, Dawid Zoltaszek, is a retired professional boxer, and together we spent three years running a gym. It was an experience that gave me a real understanding of everything that goes into running a fitness business. From memberships and payments to customer relationships, day-to-day operations and all the things that need to happen behind the scenes, I've experienced it first-hand.
Being with someone who's spent years competing professionally has also given me a different perspective on the sporting world. I've seen the dedication, commitment and sacrifices involved, and just how much goes on outside of the actual competition.
So when I decided to focus The Fit VA on fitness and sport, it felt like a really natural direction to take. I was bringing together everything I'd learnt throughout my career with an industry that's been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
THE FIT VA TODAY
Building a business my way
One of my favourite things about running The Fit VA is getting to work so closely with my clients. I love becoming part of their businesses, getting to know the people, understanding how everything works and being involved in what they're trying to achieve.
I've worked across so many different areas throughout my career that I'm comfortable getting involved in all sorts of things. One day I might be managing a busy diary or coordinating a project, the next I could be helping with recruitment, organising an event or working out a better way of doing something.
I also really enjoy the relationships that come with the work. I want my clients to feel comfortable picking up the phone, asking me a question, running an idea past me or trusting me to get on with something.
That's a big part of why I've chosen to work with a small number of clients. I want to have the time to really get to know their businesses and be properly involved, rather than spreading myself too thinly.
I'm incredibly proud of what I've built, particularly when I think about the career journey that brought me here, and I'm excited to see where it goes next.
WHEN THE LAPTOP CLOSES
The other side of me
There's more to my life than spreadsheets and inboxes, even though I do genuinely love what I do!
I'm a real foodie and absolutely love travelling. Dave and I enjoy exploring new places, experiencing different cultures and finding somewhere amazing to eat. It's always a big part of any trip.
At home, it's me, Dave and our three American pocket bullies, Rhino, Tank and Lady. They're our little gang and a huge part of our lives. Anyone who knows me will know just how much I adore them.
I love spending time with family and friends, Reformer Pilates (you'll usually find me at a class on a Thursday!), and making the most of time at home. I love our home and having people around, and I'm just as happy planning our next adventure as I am being at home with Dave and the dogs.
Having my own business has given me the opportunity to do work that I genuinely enjoy, with people I love working with, while still making time for the things that matter most to me.
LET'S WORK TOGETHER
